Travellers 'find new ways to save on holiday spending'
Many travellers are turning to taking food and drink with them on holiday in order to cut back on the costs of their holiday, according to Tesco Travel Money.
"The trends at home look likely to be mirrored in our holidays abroad with people quite happy to swap their nights out for a holiday-home cooked meal," said a spokesperson for the company.
Some 34 per cent of people stated they intend to spend less money during their summer trip this year, with 33 per cent of holidaymakers opting for self-catering in the hope of saving money, research by the firm revealed.
Although cutting back on holiday insurance could be a false economy, shopping around for foreign currency deals is one area where people can make their money go further, it added.
Purchasing travel insurance with a travel operator could end up costing some 500 per cent more than necessary, Confused.com reported in June.
The website advised people to look elsewhere for their holiday cover as it is not obligatory to purchase insurance at the same time as booking travel plans.
Cheap travel insurance from Direct Travel Insurance could be one way to keep total holiday expenditure down.
