With snow starting to fall, airports could face delays.
People who are looking to travel abroad for skiing holidays or breaks away from the cold weather on beaches could face disruption this weekend and across the busiest travel week of December as winter weather is expected to take its toll on the UK.
The Met Office has issued weather warnings this week, saying that much of the country could face extreme weather at the end of the week and across the weekend.
According to the official weather forecasters, much of Wales and the southern part of England could see the worst of the weather, with gale force winds which were seen in Scotland and the north of England last week expected to travel further south.
Extreme weather could mean that many travel insurance customers see their flights delayed or cancelled, as taking off in windy conditions can be a risky endeavour, and many airports will see planes grounded as a result.
Snow could also be a problem if runways become covered, as they need to be cleared before flights take off. Scotland has seen snow, with the fall beginning last week for many areas, while some places in England are now starting to see the white stuff fall as the weekend draws nearer.
Some airports have already experienced problems today (December 16th), with snow having fallen across large parts of the country.
At Luton airport, there were delays for incoming and outgoing flights as a result of snow clearing operations, while London City has experienced issues with low cloud cover. Heathrow airport is anticipating delays, and customers have been advised that they should check with their airline or travel operator before they arrive at the airport.
