Winter weather proves need for travel insurance, says expert.
The need for a comprehensive travel insurance policy before jetting off on holiday has been highlighted by recent winter weather, according to one expert.
Paul Bondsfield, head of marketing at Round the World Experts, said the snow and ice that have gripped the UK and parts of Europe in recent days will cause travel chaos and passengers should keep up to date with weather reports and contact their tour operator and airline before leaving the house.
"Take nothing for granted," he warned, adding: "Make use of airport hotels if you're on an early morning flight - it's favourable to worrying all morning that you're going to miss the flight."
Choosing a travel insurance policy with clauses that specifically outline bad weather cover also comes recommended for people intending to go abroad during the winter months and Mr Bondsfield also suggested holidaymakers expect the worst in order to be prepared.
He pointed out that providers are there to help customers cope with the stress and inconvenience of a disrupted trip, particularly when a holiday is cancelled or the passengers cannot get back home from their destination.
The expert's comments came after snow and ice disrupted travel across the UK this week. The
Met Office predicts low temperatures will continue and some places, such as Edinburgh and Manchester, could see the mercury drop to minus ten degrees C.
Anyone due to fly out of British airports this weekend should contact their airline before setting off, according to
BAA, as many hubs have been closed so delays and cancellations are to be expected.
