Travel insurance 'is vital' as millions of Brits experience holiday crime
Brits taking a holiday in Europe would be well advised to ensure they have taken out a travel insurance policy.
This is according to InsureandGo, which found that over 3.2 million Britons had been victims of crime while on a break in the last five years.
Spain was the country in which the most incidents occurred, with 529,000 instances reported since 2004.
Of the crimes claimed for by Brits abroad, 2.1 million people admitted to having personal items stolen and 1.7 million said they had lost money.
"As our stats show, its crucial people have travel insurance to protect themselves against the worst happening when they are abroad," explained Perry Wilson, founder of the holiday insurance company.
However, he went on to say that considering the overall numbers of people
who travel to Spain annually, the proportion of people who experience such circumstances is relatively low.
Ibiza, Rome and Corfu were among the most searched for destinations in 2009, according to figures published by Cheapflights.co.uk.
