Travel insurance is "still essential" if staying with family or friends
Holidaymakers are being reminded that travel insurance should be taken out even if they are staying with friends or family on their trip.
"The correct travel insurance policy can offer you peace of mind on holiday by covering you for all eventualities, like accommodation cancellation, theft, loss and health treatment," explained Sarah Munro, head of Post Office Travel Services.
She went on to say that although more and more people are opting to stay with family and friends when they go away, ensuring they are covered by a comprehensive travel insurance policy was "still essential".
Ms Munro stressed that by not taking out proper holiday insurance, travellers are making themselves "financially vulnerable".
Other ways of sticking to a budget instead of cutting back on travel insurance could include researching the exchange rate to find out how much staple items such as drinks will cost once in resort, she suggested.
Research from the company indicated that 23 per cent of UK travellers were contemplating not taking out a travel insurance policy in an attempt to save on their holiday costs.
