An industry spokesperson has reminded travellers that holiday insurance is not a luxury purchase.
Holidaymakers are being told that
travel insurance is something that should be "central" and "integral" to their trip.
According to a spokesperson for the Association of British Insurers (ABI),
holiday insurance is "not something that can be regarded as an add-on or a luxury", but should instead be an essential part of preparing for a break.
He went on to say that failing to take out travel insurance means taking unnecessary risk and not having financial protection in place in case of a medical emergency could even be called "acting recklessly" and a "false economy".
For trips within the UK, the ABI representative emphasized the need for holiday insurance to cover possessions, as medical treatment will be given on the NHS.
Lloyds TSB revealed yesterday (August 26th) that ten per cent of Brits have taken an overseas trip without any travel insurance.
Some 54 per cent admitted this was down to not considering the need.
Cheap travel insurance from Direct Travel Insurance could be one way to keep total holiday expenditure down.
