Two strike periods have been announced by British Airways cabin crew - how will this affect travellers' holidays and insurance?
Holidaymakers who have flights booked for one of the two strike periods recently announced by British Airways cabin crew may be able to make a claim on their
travel insurance policy.
According to Association of British Insurers advice reported by the Guardian, those who planned to fly with the airline between March 20th and 22nd and between March 27th and 30th might qualify for a
holiday insurance payout if their flight is delayed as a result of the industrial action.
However, this is dependent on the policy itself, as some companies may not pay out if the holidaymaker decided to cancel their getaway.
The newspaper's transport correspondent, Dan Milmo, noted that while many insurers are unlikely to offer new cover for holidays falling within the strike periods as the dates have already been announced,
travel insurance may still be essential.
"Don't let this put you off considering a policy as it will still cover things like lost baggage and medical expenses," he said.
British Airways has said that it does plan to operate as many flights as it can during the strikes.
However, it is currently readying its plans for the two periods and has stopped selling new tickets for these dates temporarily while it does so.
