Anniversary and the re-release of the popular film will see a boost in cruises this year.
Transatlantic cruises could see a boost throughout the period of the next 12 months, as those who are looking to find a holiday with a difference may be influenced by a number of events which take place this year.
The year 2012 marks the 100th anniversary since the sinking of the Titanic on its maiden voyage over the Atlantic ocean to the US. We all know the story of the doomed voyage, and how it sank after a collision with an iceberg, but one expert believes it may lead to more people wanting to experience a cruise lifestyle themselves.
A spokeswoman for Cruise Critic, said that this year there would be an added market Titanic memorabilia, with a swell in the number of items which are likely to come to market already expected. She also said that the re-release of the popular film, starring Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslet, was likely to increase the potential number of people who want to cruise this year.
This ties in well with the belief recently reportedby the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), when it said that TV shows and other items of popular culture can influence the decisions of people looking to travel overseas when they are deciding where they want to make use of their travel insurance.
Cruise Critic's spokesowoman said that although transatlantic cruising will be popular specifically because of the Titanic effect in 2012, it was also likely that other, more traditional cruise destinations would continue to perform well, as the market for them is likely to go unchanged.
"The traditional Scandinavia, round Britain, Mediterranean and Caribbean itineraries will continue to be popular. The Canaries will be a draw for winter sun seekers and those who can afford it will be going to Asia," she said.
