People spent the most money at the start of January.
Thomson has announced that it experienced surprising results in terms of when and how people were booking holidays in January of this year, as the British consumers' changing attitude to how they plan for travel insurance trips overseas continued.
According to Thomson, holidaymakers were looking to get their foot in the door with their summer breaks much earlier than normal this year.
In previous years, the busiest day for booking summer holidays after the New Yea has been the third weekend in January. However, this year people took to the travel agents even earlier, and the busiest day in January was actually the 8th.
The company also said that the migration towards the internet for their holidays has continued, as people used the online option of Thomson's booking system more than they did in 2010. Year-on-year, the number of page views Thomson recorded on its website were up by 11 per cent, according to TravelMole.
This was a trend which was also recently reported by TravelSupermaket, as it said that only 11 per cent of people looking to book holidays are now doing so through traditional travel agents. Instead, its recent report found, 66 per cent of people will now be turning their eye to a computer as they use the internet to book their travel arrangements for this summer.
Thomson has also reported that traditional destinations are looking popular once again this year, as places Brits are well known to travel to, such as the Costa destinations across Spain, are still receiving high levels of bookings for this summer.
For people looking for winter sun, the travel agent said Mexico, Tenerife and Sharm El Sheikh were the most popular destinations on the planet. New destinations are also coming to the fore however, with online searches for Croatian holidays up 55 per cent this year.
