There are various ways for people to stay healthy during an indulgent break, says an expert.
The gastronomic delights of cities throughout Europe present a wide range of choice and indulgence for people this
summer - but for those worried about their waistline, one expert's comments may be helpful.
Co-founder of sunshine.co.uk Chris Brown said there are "plenty" of ways to keep fit on holiday, rather than hitting the hotel gym.
Watersports, swimming and walking were all suggested, as these are commonly available at coastline resorts. Accommodation further inland might also offer activity-based trips and days out, which could be worth a look. Of course, it's important to make sure the relevant
travel insurance is sorted if you plan to undertake things like this.
A survey by the website recently found that some 42 per cent of people go on a diet before they set off for a sojourn, although more than two-thirds of these gain the weight back while they are away.
Ninety-six per cent of the 1,729 respondents said they usually consumed more when they were on a break - possibly due to the selection of local delicacies and dishes on offer.
"It's probably much more preferable for people to come back the same weight as before they started their diet, than to not diet at all and come back needing to lose a few pounds," Mr Brown remarked.
Those heading off to Europe in the coming months have a veritable feast of food to look forward to. Classic Spanish dish paella gets no better than in the country itself, while rich cuisine has to be on the menu too if France is the destination.
