The "vast majority" of Brits are still travelling overseas
People from the UK are still heading to overseas destinations for their holidays this year, new figures have revealed.
Frances Tuke, spokeswoman for Abta - The Travel Association, said that "90 per cent of people who travelled last year are still going".
She continued: "The vast majority of people are still travelling abroad and not really cutting back substantially."
She added that people were still taking out holiday insurance for the traditional popular holiday destinations such as Greece, Spain and the USA, but that other countries outside of the dollar and eurozone areas had also experienced growth.
Ms Tuke thought that people were travelling to Turkey and Egypt as they represent good value for money at present.
The Office of National Statistics published figures on July 16th that showed 69 million foreign trips were made by UK travellers in 2008 which represented a drop in numbers by 0.6 per cent compared to the year before.
Free on-site activities and value for money have increasingly become deciding factors for travel insurance holders when choosing their holiday destination in 2009, according to sunshine.co.uk.
