The pound 'will stretch further in Iceland this year'
British holidaymakers unsure of where to head on their travels this summer may wish to consider destinations such as Iceland, Hungary or Poland as their money will go further this year, a new report has revealed.
Research by the Post Office named the three European countries as best-value holiday destinations for 2009, eTravel reported.
Topping the list - and where the pound will go 40 per cent further than in 2008 - Iceland may be a good choice for travel insurance customers looking for a bargain break this summer.
Coming in second place, Poland not only offers visitors a low cost of living, but sterling will also stretch 19 per cent further in 2009.
Finally, Hungary was the only other European destination to offer British travellers more holiday money for their pounds this year, it added.
Jamaica, Kenya and Turkey were also named good-value destinations for people looking to travel a bit further.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office strongly recommend[s]" travellers take out fully comprehensive travel insurance when heading to Kenya and Jamaica, as well as other countries.
