Thailand visa waiver 'to boost holiday demand'

Thailand may become a more frequently seen destination on holiday insurance policies during spring due to the Thai government's decision to waive visa application costs for a three-month period.

This is the suggestion of Jonathan Cudworth, Expedia's head of product marketing, who stated that holidaymakers are always looking for locations where they can get that little bit more for their money.

His company has already observed a growth in demand for trips to Thailand and in the last few years, UK travellers have increasingly been switching from traditional holiday hotspots such as Europe and the US to the Asia-Pacific region, he said.

Commenting on the visa fee exemption, which was brought in on March 5th and lasts until June 4th, Mr Cudworth said: "Any measures that reduce the cost of a holiday can only be beneficial for consumers and will help stimulate demand for that particular destination."

The Tourism Authority of Thailand estimates that it will receive approximately 14 million holidaymakers in 2009.ADNFCR-2301-ID-19095625-ADNFCR
