Thailand 'popular for those on a budget'
Thailand is particularly popular among British holidaymakers at present due to how cheap it is.
This is the claim of Sian Williams, country manager for trivago UK, who suggested that the weak pound is making travellers consider taking short breaks "further afield" in locations such as Thailand instead of sticking to traditional holiday destinations in Europe.
Explaining Thailand's appeal, she said: "The hotels are very cheap, so all [holidaymakers] have to do is pay for the airfare and they are there and everything is very cheap."
European hotel prices by comparison "are very expensive", she added, particularly at current exchange rates.
Cheapflights.co.uk and trivago published a press release this month that revealed mid and long-haul destinations outside of the euro have become increasingly popular over the last year in Cheapflight's UK search rankings.
The Foreign & Commonwealth Office advises people visiting Thailand to obtain comprehensive travel insurance and keep in mind that there is the possibility of further disruption to the country's transport network as observed in December when anti-government protests took place at Bangkok airports.
