The Estonian capital, Tallinn, has much to offer food lovers in search of the perfect holiday.

Gastronomy lovers looking for a holiday with a difference might want to head to Tallinn to sample its wide range of food and drink.

The Estonian capital has much to offer when it comes to top-class restaurants and hotels serving up all manner of local cuisine, with many chefs now focusing on modern takes of more traditional dishes.

Just a few of the city's top food-related attractions include markets and specialist outlets selling locally grown and sourced ingredients, as well as impressive restaurants such as Kaerajaan - where you can taste ostrich.

Visitors to Tallinn can also have a go at making chocolate at the Anneli Viik Chocolate Cafe, sample local wines and beers at Balthasar and the nearby Saku brewery, and learn to cook through courses run by restaurants such as Museum and MEKK.

Tarmo Mutso of the Estonian Tourist Board comments: "Estonians love their food."

Those heading abroad to sample dishes they have never tried before would do well to take out holiday insurance in case they consume something their stomachs do not agree with.

According to Gocompare.com, 56 per cent of Britons heading abroad this year intend to try as much of the local cuisine as possible.
