Estonia's capital city Tallinn is perfect for tourists seeking a weekend away, an industry expert has said.
Eastern European destinations such as Prague and Krakow have become increasingly popular with Brits seeking a weekend break abroad over recent years - and now there could be a new option to add to that list.
Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, is another city with a similar up-and-coming vibe just waiting to be discovered, according add to the UK director of tourism for the Estonian Tourist Board (ETB).
As with its counterparts in the Czech Republic and Poland, Tallinn offers the winning combination of picturesque scenery, stunning architecture and value-for-money that makes it ideal for a weekend getaway, Mary Stuart-Miller said.
The city's Old Town is apparently "the best preserved medieval walled city in northern Europe, with tall medieval buildings, cafes, bars, view points and lots of history," she added.
During the first quarter of 2010, the ETB's figures show that British visitors to Estonia increased by around ten per cent and this figure seems set to boost further as easyJet now operate a flight service to Tallinn from London Stansted almost every day.
And the fact that, according to the trivago Hotel Price Index, the cost of hotel rooms across Europe has collectively dropped recently, Tallinn is now an even better option for holidaymakers than before.
Meanwhile, the city is hosting a number of events over the
summer months, including the Baltic region's largest beer festival from July 14th to 17th.
Anyone considering a trip to Estonia this
summer should look into taking out
travel insurance before they leave the UK.
