Take advantage of "early bird ski offers", travellers advised
People who love their winter sports are being advised to plan ahead as there could be a lack of last-minute ski deals in the winter season, the Ski Club for Great Britain has stressed.
"What we're saying to people is to have a look at whether they can pre-book their skiing holiday and take advantage of early bird offers," said a spokesperson for the club.
Due to increases in the exchange rate of the euro, holiday companies will be cutting capacities next season and therefore there will not be as many last-minute offers, she explained.
Ski holidays have not been any more affected than other holidays to Europe, she added, other than that there are a lot more elements that need to be paid for upfront such as a lift pass, ski schools, equipment hire and the airport transfer.
Esure reported in January that 20 per cent of people who take a ski holiday do not take out travel insurance.
However, transport off the slopes on a wagon could cost as much as £200, with helicopter transport costing around £1,500.
Repatriation costs from Europe can reach £4,000 and as high as £8,000 from the USA or Canada, the insurer added.
