Britons looking to explore the wonders of the Far East may want to head to Taiwan, according to the region's tourist board.
The Far East is packed with many holiday destinations - and a trip to Taiwan could serve as a useful introduction to these, it has been suggested.
Commenting in the wake of the launch of a new advertising campaign highlighting Taiwan as a travel hotspot, Josephine Huang of the Taiwan Tourism Bureau described the island as "a microcosm of Asia".
The destination has "beaches to rival those in Thailand, mountains like Malaysia's Cameron Highlands and great Japanese and Chinese food", she commented.
Other highlights lying in store for those booking their
holiday insurance for a trip to Taiwan include an unchanged aboriginal culture, the tallest peak in north-east Asia and lush scenery filled with rainforests, Ms Huang added.
The tourism bureau's ads can be seen in and around London on taxis and displays in the Underground, as well as in publications such as the Daily Telegraph Magazine and the Sunday Times Travel Magazine.
