There is a long-standing tradition of Britons heading to Switzerland on holiday that continues today, according to one expert.
Britons still flock to Switzerland some 150 years after first introducing winter sports in St Moritz.
This is according to Julie Melet of Switzerland Tourism, who says that the country's main appeal to UK holidaymakers lies in its beautiful scenery and high-quality skiing facilities.
"Our many different resorts offer everything from tranquil, car-free mountain villages to high-action sport resorts where the party never stops," she remarked.
There are also plenty of active pursuits for non-skiers to enjoy, such as snowshoeing, tobogganing, dog sledding, hot air ballooning, sledging, horse sleigh rides, paragliding and hiking - although
travel insurance may be necessary to enjoy some of these pastimes with peace of mind.
More Britons will be able to easily travel to Switzerland this winter as Swiss International Air Lines is to repeat its popular winter service between Manchester and Geneva.
Those flying to Geneva will be able to access ski resorts such as Chatel, Avoriaz, Chamonix, Les Gets, Morzine, Megeve, Villars and Verbier from the city, according to the Travel Trade Gazette.
