Switching off could pay for cheap travel insurance
Making sure electrical items are switched off before heading away on holiday could cover the cost of cheap travel insurance policies, in light of figures from Tescocompare.com.
The price comparison site reveals that a fortnight of leaving a house full of appliances on standby can cost up to £14 in electricity.
And the site's advice adds that householders can make doubly sure that their utility bills do not increase while they are away by unplugging their equipment from the wall.
Spokesperson Debra Williams says: "Most devices continue to use energy when left on standby and can easily consume 10 kWh per day."
"Those going on a traditional two-week break could be wasting an average of £14," she adds.
Holidaymakers who head away several times a year could find annual coverage to be a relatively cheap travel insurance option.
Tescocompare.com explains that an annual policy will cover several trips, each of which must typically be below a certain duration in days.
Cheap travel insurance from Direct Travel Insurance can cover a trip in the UK, to Europe or long-haul destinations all for a low price.
