New York is the most expensive city break destination in the world, according to Virgin Money.
The most expensive destination for a weekend city break is New York, according to a new study.
Carried out by Virgin Money, the survey found that a two-day break in the Big Apple for two people - including accommodation, car rental and
travel insurance - costs £527.44.
In contrast, the cheapest city in the firm's top 20 - Bangkok - costs just £141.25.
Other pricey locations included Milan, Moscow and Barcelona, while Dublin, Prague and Stockholm were among the least expensive cities.
"City breaks are big business now and our research shows you don't have to break the bank when you're on holiday," remarked Grant Bather of Virgin Money.
Earlier this year, a study by Visa Europe found that over one-third of Britons prefer to take several short trips abroad rather than one long holiday per year, TravelMole reported.
City breaks were the second most popular type of short holiday among those polled, after beach getaways.
