'Something for everyone' in Namibia
Taking a three-week driving trip across Namibia is an adventure that appeals to the whole family, a travel writer has suggested.
According to North Shore News' Caroline Helbig, the African country was appealing to both parents and children on a recent family holiday.
She said her most memorable moment was a hike into the "gigantic" Dead Vlei, while 11-year-old son Alex was interested in the ascent up Dune 45 - as well as the wild ride down.
Alex was also particularly keen on sandboarding, a desert-like version of snowboarding the entire family attempted on their travels.
The country's wildlife parks also offered plenty to see. Tipped to be among the best "in all of Africa", elephants, wildebeest, zebras and giraffes were spotted within metres of a watering hole near the family's hotel.
Comprehensive travel insurance is a must for people planning a holiday to Namibia, according to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
The government body also advises that while UK tourists do not generally need a visa to enter the country, it is wise to check that the passport stamp they receive when they pass through customs will be valid for their whole holiday.
