One expert has suggested travellers consider a skiing holiday, even if they are on a budget.
People hoping to go on holiday without breaking the bank need not shun the idea of a ski trip, according to one expert.
David McLoughlin, manager of Idealo.co.uk, explained that the cost of such an excursion has actually fallen in recent times and accommodation in particular can be booked for approximately £15 per night.
Budget hotels and hostels could prove fruitful for those planning a week or two on the piste, while inexpensive flights and non-exclusive resorts may also have contributed to lower costs.
"In reality, if you plan ahead and do some research it's possible to get to the slopes for under £100 then book yourself into a budget hotel", he explained.
Equipment and ski insurance may increase the price slightly, but the latter is essential for those planning any kind of activity on the slopes, while kit such as boots and waterproof clothing can be hired or borrowed to help keep the final cost down.
Gathering a group of like-minded individuals also comes recommended by Mr McLoughlin and self-catering chalets or communal facilities might be more reasonably-priced than an all-inclusive option.
The news that ski trips can be arranged on a budget might be welcome to the 12 per cent of respondents to an Idealo.co.uk survey who have considered giving the sport a miss during 2011.
Some 22 per cent were disillusioned by the price of equipment, while others cited financial struggles at home as their reasons for packing away their ski dreams for the time being.
