People intending to participate in winter sports should take out a suitable ski insurance policy, according to one expert.
Holidaymakers intending on taking part in winter sports during their trip should ensure they have the right amount of protection before leaving home.
That is according to Asia Yasir, spokeswoman for esure travel, who said a ski insurance policy is a vital addition to anyone's preparations.
"Always check the small print before booking your skiing holiday and be mindful of any exclusions - particularly if you're tempted by more extreme winter sports," she explained.
Consumers should contact their provider to check what their policy stretches to, no matter what their experience levels on the slopes.
Ms Yasir pointed out that some 34 per cent of holidaymakers would take part in an activity without consulting their insurance documents, while 13 per cent assume any event offered at a ski resort is automatically covered under their policy, which is often not the case.
Bobsleighing, off-piste snowboarding and ice-lake diving were some of the pastimes Ms Yasir states are being provided more often at resorts, which should prompt individuals to take more care before indulging in any new sport.
Research from Sainsbury's Finance has stated the most common injuries during winter sports are to the knees, while leg, hip and pelvis damage can be the most expensive claims, with the average sum reaching £10,000.
No matter their experience, ski insurance policyholders could do well to book a refresher lesson with an experienced instructor to ensure they are still using the best technique and are up-to-date with safety procedures, as well as making the most of the available weather conditions and routes.
