Ski insurance claims 'top £66m'
Last year, some 130,000 people in the UK claimed on their ski insurance, according to research from InsureandGo.
The insurance provider received £66 million worth of ski-related claims last year - two-thirds of which were for injuries or medical problems.
"You tend to find that people twist and sprain parts of their body they would not normally twist and sprain [when skiing], " said founder of the firm Perry Wilson.
Physiotherapy can be very costly while away, he added, claiming treatment for a sprain or bruise could cost up to 200 euros (£182) in a resort.
The research revealed that the most expensive travel insurance claims came from accidents in the United States but the majority of cases were from skiers at traditional resorts in Italy and France.
Mr Wilson explained that they also receive a large number of claims for lost luggage.
The average amount for a skiing-related insurance claim amounted to around £491, whereas the average medical claim came to around £690.
Ski conditions this season in the Alps and Pyrenees have been the best they have been for 25 years according to the Great Britain Ski Club.
