Not enough skiers wear safety helmets when out on the slopes, new research has suggested.
New figures have revealed that less than half of British skiers wear helmets.
According to Ski Republic and the Ski Club of Great Britain, 44 per cent of those engaged in winter sports wear helmets.
About 42 per cent of skiers say they intend to wear a helmet when they are next on the slopes.
Last season, 17,500 of the 84,200 winter sports injuries sustained were head-related - which may have resulted in
ski insurance claims that could otherwise have been avoided.
"We urge people to take the risks very seriously and advise that all children under 13 wear ski helmets this winter and adults do so at their own discretion," commented Betony Garner, spokesperson for the Ski Club of Great Britain.
About 1.27 million Britons currently take ski holidays, according to the organisation.
Its recent report on the state of the snowsports market suggested that a growing number of skiers are opting for all-inclusive package holidays.
