Singapore is likely to become more popular among holidaymakers this year, its tourism board has said.
Up to 12.5 million people are expected to visit Singapore this year, according to a new forecast.
The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) says its forecast comes after the city-state had a record-breaking month for tourism in January.
About 908,000 people visited Singapore during the month, representing a 17.6 per cent year-on-year increase. Arrivals from the UK rose by seven per cent.
Some of the main attractions expected to draw tourists to Singapore this year include the opening of the Resorts World Sentosa and Marina Bay Sands resort facilities, as well as the arrival of Universal Studios Singapore.
Events such as the Youth Olympic Games, the Asia Fashion Exchange, the Singapore grand Prix and the Great Singapore Sale could also encourage more people to buy
travel insurance for a trip to the region.
"With the launch of yet more new attractions and events, Singapore continues to offer an increasingly vibrant and diverse tourism landscape," commented Eunice Yeo of the STB.
Singapore has a history stretching back over centuries - the first recorded mention of the city-state occurred in the third century.
It has had numerous name changes since then, becoming known by its current moniker in the 18th century.
