'Significant savings can be made' when purchasing currency
Travel insurance customers could make significant savings when purchasing their currency by shopping around, a consumer champion has reported.
Editor of Which? Money Martyn Hocking said: "Thinking ahead and changing your money before you travel means you'll avoid getting stung at the airport - head to a city centre bureau de change or go online for the best deals."
Research by the company revealed costs when purchasing $500 and 500 across 21 currency providers on six different days could vary by up to £50.
Which? also found the same currency provider sometimes offered a good deal on the internet, but had uncompetitive rates inside their high street branch.
The magazine advised travellers to pay by cash or Maestro card to get an even better deal and avoid paying extra charges on their credit or debit card.
According to the travel association Abta, 66 million people from the UK took a foreign holiday in the last 12 months.
Cheap travel insurance from Direct Travel Insurance can cover a trip in the UK, to Europe or long-haul destinations all for a low price.
