The winter solstice will fall on December 21st in the US state this year.
The shortest day of the year is to be celebrated on December 21st this year and some tourists might want to venture out to Arkansas to participate in events.
The Winter Solstice Full Moon Cruise could be ideal for people looking for an alternative way to welcome the season and the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism has claimed the "cool" excursion at Lake Fort in Smith State Park in Mountainburg is a "leisurely" thing to do. Participants should wear warm clothing and bring a flask of hot drink to keep them toasty while they sail beneath the moon.
Anyone looking to extend their stay in the state could schedule a stop at Lake Dardanelle in the State Park in Russellville, where guided walks are arranged for a number of dates throughout December - including the 31st, which could prove a suitable prelude to new year entertainment.
However, single trip insurance policyholders that are not keen on Jack Frost nibbling at their fingers and toes could do well to visit some indoor attractions, such as the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute's River Rock Grill where dessert cooking lessons are to be held on December 4th and 11th.
The Fort Smith Museum of History is also under cover and is celebrating its centenary on the 10th of the month. Cake, punch and a soda fountain will be available on the day as part of the free event.
Meanwhile, outdoorsy types can get involved with angling as the Arkansas: The State of Fishing is currently taking place until November 23rd.
