Holidaymakers looking to save money should make sure they shop around and compare prices, it has been advised.
Shopping around is one of the main ways in which travellers can save money when it comes to the cost of their holidays, it has been suggested.
According to Emma Lunn of Moneywise, comparing prices is particularly important when booking holidays at the last minute.
She advises registering with websites that send out regular newsletters with special offers to get the best deals and to sign up to cashback sites to get some money back when the break is booked.
Other ways of cutting costs include organising the holiday so it takes place outside of peak periods like school breaks, the expert adds.
Ms Lunn also warns: "Whatever you do, don't skimp on
travel insurance, otherwise a holiday mishap could turn your cheap break into an expensive disaster."
According to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, travelling without
holiday insurance could result in medical expenses running into tens of thousands of pounds, depending on the country.
Cheap
