Most of those who holidayed in the UK last year want to do so again in 2010, according to a new survey.
New research has revealed that the majority of Britons who had a holiday in the UK in 2009 want to repeat the experience this year.
The survey by BDRC Continental found that 70 per cent of those polled would like to book another domestic break this year, with 31 per cent believing that the UK is a more appealing destination than it used to be.
Four in ten Britons are thinking about booking their main annual holiday in Britain, up from the 30 per cent who said the same last year.
The main reasons for this shift towards domestic holidays appear to lie in the strength of the euro and concerns over air travel, BDRC Continental said.
"More and more people are deciding to holiday at home again this year and are enjoying rediscovering what's on their own doorstep," commented Steve Mills, director of the tourism, travel and leisure team at the research firm.
Those holidaying in the UK may still want to consider taking out
travel insurance in case they meet with transport delays and other issues.
According to the National Audit Office, about 800,000 incidents caused 14 million minutes of delays in 2006-07.
Even if you're travelling within the UK,
holiday insurance from Direct
Travel Insurance is still a sensible purchase as the expense of dealing with issues on a holiday can be costly in any country.
