More snow has caused further winter travel chaos as Scottish airports remain closed today (December 6th).
Passengers with winter travel plans could do well to contact their airline before leaving the house as heavy snowfall overnight has caused some of the country's airports to close.
Glasgow Airport reopened at 14:00 GMT today (December 6th), according to the hub's Twitter feed, but
BAA has warned that many flights have been delayed and passengers should expect further cancellations as a result of the conditions.
However, holiday insurance policyholders expecting to jet off from Edinburgh Airport could be in for further travel misery as it is closed until 18:00 GMT this evening, although the situation is to be reviewed at 16:00 GMT.
What's more, other locations are experiencing problems as a result of the winter snap and the
Foreign and Commonwealth Office has noted airports in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Austria and north Italy have all been affected - and London Heathrow has been disrupted due to delays at other airports. Anyone expecting to fly within the next few days should contact their airline to ascertain whether travelling to the airport is the right thing to do.
The
Met Office has issued advisory and flash warnings of severe or extreme weather for much of central Scotland. Heavy snow is expected in the Strathclyde region over the next few hours (from 12:00 GMT onwards) and icy roads are likely in southern areas such as Dunbartonshire, South Lanarkshire and Argyll and Bute.
Northern Ireland, Wales and south-west England may also be susceptible to ice on the roads, particularly if predicted snow and sleet falls on already slippery surfaces.
