Scotland 'named perfect destination for an island getaway'
Britons looking for an island escape on their summer break this year might want to think about heading to the west coast of Scotland, a new survey has suggested.
According to a study of people from the UK carried out by YouGov, islands such as Arran, Islay, Skye and Mull were chosen as the perfect destination for an island escape.
"With more Brits holidaying at home this year and many people keen to try somewhere off the beaten track, these islands' popularity may be about to take off," said David Else, coordinating author of Lonely Planet's new guide to Great Britain.
According to Visit Scotland, the islands offer visitors the chance to take part in activities such as walking on the beaches, whisky and food trails, golfing and whale watching.
Some 790 islands surround the coastline of Scotland from Shetland in the north to Arran in the south.
A report from Confused.com published in May revealed travel insurance customers could pay as much as 500 per cent too much for their policies if purchased through a travel agent.
