People should head to Scotland for a wildlife experience, it has been suggested.
Scotland could be an ideal destination for people hoping to see wildlife on their next holiday.
Places north of the border offer a great opportunity for tourists to catch a glimpse of some the UK's most prized animals, which may inspire people to book their
holiday insurance and head to the Highlands.
According to VisitScotland, almost half of Britons have not seen a bird or mammal in the wild for the past five years.
The organisation encouraged people to take a trip to Scotland, where there are large areas of protected land and two "spectacular" national parks.
Kate Humble, wildlife and nature television presenter, agreed. She pointed out that, in autumn, the country is home to 40,000 pink-footed geese from the Arctic and the red deer, among other creatures.
"Many people think you have to go abroad on a safari in order to watch animals in the wild, but it is possible to witness some of nature's finest creatures right here in Britain," she commented.
People interested in the special specimens may be able to see Europe's oldest puffins while on holiday in Scotland.
According to the British Trust for Ornithology, two of the 34-year-old birds live on the Shiant Isles.
