'Savvy travellers can still find a great deal'
Short-haul destinations remain popular with British holidaymakers and can still offer a great deal, a travel company has said.
Despite poor exchange rates against the euro, travellers are able to find value for money holidays "whatever their budget," said Jonathan Cudworth, head of product marketing at Expedia.co.uk.
"If properly researched and booked using the correct tools, savvy travellers are still able to find great value accommodation, activities and places to eat," he explained.
Mr Cudworth went on to say that the internet was a useful tool for finding out where savings can be made and for seeking out a good deal.
Last year, Brits spent almost £60 billion on travel, according to the Office of National Statistics, which works out at an average of £2,259 per household.
Some 27 per cent of holidays taken by people in the UK were to Spain in 2007, accounting for over 12 million trips.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office recommends ensuring all travellers are fully insured before travelling to Spain.
