Savvy Londoners cut the cost of holidays

People living in London are cutting the cost of their holidays with clever decisions.

Savvy holidaymakers living in London are making various clever decisions this year which are saving them substantial amounts on their holidays, leaving them with more to afford a decent level of coverage on their travel insurance.

With one of the busiest periods of the year for holidaymakers just around the corner, as 4.25 million Brits look set to jet off for Christmas,  travel money expert International Currency Exchange (ICE) has released details of the most common ways for people in London to save money.

The most common way to economise, it appears, is through downgrading how people travel. While many people would not like to cut down on the luxuries once they arrive at their destination, it appears that a large proportion are happy to make savings by travelling with a budget airline. The survey found that some 40.39 per cent used cheaper airlines to help them reach their destination.

While saving on the actual booking of the holiday would be the most common way to save a bit of extra cash, many Brits are also looking to reduce what they spend when they get there, with 30 per cent of those living in London buying all-inclusive holidays, making their expenditure one lump sum to control spending.

However, ICE said that Londoners were still risking spending more than they plan to on their travel currency, with only 66 per cent buying it in advance, meaning that many will be facing additional costs by buying it at the airport or when they get to their destination.

Joanna Williams, Head of Marketing for ICE said: "It’s crazy that we can spend a great deal of effort searching around for the best holiday deal, with the flight at the right price, yet fail to plan in advance when it comes to organising the travel money.  It’s well known that the best rates will always be found online.
