Denmark's very own Glastonbury celebrates its 40th birthday this year.
Denmark's very own version of Glastonbury gets underway next month - and an industry expert said yesterday (June 9th) that it promises to be better than ever this year.
Just like Glastonbury, Roskilde Festival celebrates its 40th birthday in 2010 and 75,000 people will flock to the site from July 1st to 4th to see artists such as Muse, Prince, Gorillaz and Patti Smith mark the occasion.
And Visit Denmark press and event coordinator Sofie Salling Rasmussen expects the usual diverse mix of revellers to travel to the northern European country to attend the special anniversary from all over the continent.
"People come from all over Europe although Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Germany are most represented," she said.
Ms Rasmussen went on to say that the festival is about much more than just world-class bands thrilling the crowd as it now attracts families and people of all ages with other attractions such as a cinema and lake swimming.
Although the music does not get going properly until July 1st, the event's campsites open on June 27th to give attendees the chance to soak up the true festival atmosphere for a full week.
What's more, all proceeds from the bash are donated to charity by the Roskilde Festival Charity Society. It is estimated that the event has raise upwards of £37 million for good causes since its inception four decades ago.
A recent survey by the Association of Independent Festivals found that music events in general had resisted the effects of the global economic downturn well.
Anyone planning to attend Roskilde this
summer should consider taking out
