One company has noted the increasing popularity of trekking holidays among travel insurance holders.
An increasing number of people are opting to pack their bags, take out a
travel insurance policy and head off on a trekking holiday, it has been asserted.
Claire Wilson, managing director of the Adventure Company, explained that there are many reasons for such expeditions becoming more and more tempting.
She noted that many celebrities - such as Ben Fogle, Chris Moyles and Bruce Parry - have taken part in high-profile trekking events over the last couple of months and have captured the imaginations of many members of the public by doing so.
Other celebrity trekkers include Cheryl Cole, Gary Barlow and Kimberley Walsh.
"Another contributing factor to their rise in popularity is their simplistic nature, which makes them relatively cheap holidays," Ms Wilson added.
She explained that accommodation is basic, meals are simple and there are no additional fees for extra activities, which means that many trekkers are able to enjoy an exciting adventure without digging too far into their wallets.
