'Record numbers' to take a holiday in the UK
Record numbers of people in the UK are expected to holiday at home this year, new figures have suggested.
According to research from the AA, planned journeys by drivers rose by 11 per cent in the week to last Sunday (May 24th), according to traffic statistics from the company's route planner.
Spokesperson for the firm Dave Arnold said the effects of the economy blended with spells of good weather had led to an increase in the number of Brits choosing to holiday in the UK.
"This trend looks set to continue and with forecasters tipping a hot summer it is more important than ever to plan your journey in advance to avoid hotspots and hot heads on busy summer roads," he added.
Figures indicate that the number of people heading to the coast are set to increase as Brighton, Blackpool, Bournemouth and Newquay are proving to be popular requested routes.
