US railways could be a great way to explore the country.
Tourists who love exploring a country by rail could do well to book their next trip to the US, if one expert's comments are anything to go by.
Stella Clery-Ackland, spokeswoman for the US Travel Association, explained that proposed investment in the infrastructure could benefit visitors in the future.
Many companies have "made improvements, they've all upgraded their systems and it's indicative of how rail is becoming a much more important product in the whole offering from the United States", she continued.
Anyone looking to plan an excursion in the States will be well served by the trains, as many tour operators have dedicated itineraries for those who love to travel by this mode of transport.
However, exploring the north-east of the US is best done by car, as development of the railways in this region has been overshadowed by a reliance on the roads, Ms Clery-Ackland added.
But one organisation has announced plans to introduce a high-speed network here - Amtrak states journeys between Washington and New York could be cut to just 96 minutes and a connection between the latter and Boston would save over two hours on the current time by reducing the trip to 84 minutes.
Holiday insurance customers might find themselves travelling at some 220 mph on the new vehicles under the Amtrak initiative.
However, individuals could do well to book their hotel rooms early as research company STR has revealed figures that state occupancy of accommodation rose by 6.8 per cent during the summer of 2010 and demand for rooms increased by 8.8 per cent.
