Eight in ten Europeans say they will go on holiday this year, according to the latest Eurobarometer survey on the topic.
A new survey has revealed that the majority of Europeans will go on holiday in 2010, with just 20 per cent almost certain that they will not book a getaway this year.
The Eurobarometer poll of more than 30,000 people also found that 57 per cent of respondents prefer holidays in traditional tourist destinations, with almost 28 per cent favouring going off the beaten track.
Half of Europeans said they plan to book breaks in either their home nation or another country in the European Union - the most popular destinations included Spain, France and Italy.
Nearly six in ten people arrange their holidays themselves, which may include buying their own
travel insurance.
"The 2010 survey results are encouraging for the tourism industry," commented Antonio Tajani, vice-president of the European Commission.
For those intending to visit Spain this year, British Airways recently announced that it is re-launching flights to Barcelona from London City Airport at the end of this month, as well as unveiling new routes to Majorca and Ibiza in May.
