'Oyster shucking and wine tasting' in South Africa
The Knysna Oyster festival takes place in July each year and incorporates sporting activities with oyster opening contests - also known as shucking - and wine and mollusc tasting.
"The Knysna Oyster Festival is a celebration of food, sport and the good life," said Lebohang Mokhesi, UK country manager at South African Tourism.
"As well as providing the setting for an unforgettable holiday, South Africa also offers exceptional value for money," he added.
According to TravelMole, more than 200,000 of the delicious delicacies are devoured during the event and can be bought cheaply at 29 "oyster hotspots" around the town.
For the more energetic types, there is a forest marathon, cycling events, sailing, canoeing and golf on offer, alongside plenty of gala evenings.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office recommends taking out "comprehensive" medical and travel insurance when travelling to South Africa and advises travellers to ensure that any excursions are covered.
