Over-55s 'dominate the online booking market'
Adults aged over 55 are making the most of their annual travel insurance policies by using online travel deals.
This is according to Carmel Dennis, project manager at New Media Trend Watch, who said that the proportion of online bookings made by this generation was on the increase and that over-55s were as comfortable in using the internet as their younger counterparts.
She explained: "This generation are familiar with the internet from their workplaces and also may have the freedom to book more last-minute short breaks online."
They are also less likely to have to fit travel around childcare and school holidays as their children may have already grown up, she continued.
A study carried out by IVRA Holding found that women were also the dominant sex when it came to online travel booking.
In 2009, women are expected to account for more than 50 per cent of all holidays booked over the internet.
Travel insurance holders aged over 55 will make up 18.5 per cent of web bookings this year, the company predicted.
