Oman 'has a lot to offer tourists'
Oman is a "land of contrasts" that offers travel insurance customers an abundance of things to see and do, a travel magazine has said.
"The city [of Muscat] is a perfect blend of old and new where the traditional values of a 900-year-old city coexist with a bustling metropolis," wrote Australian publication Senior Traveller.
Described as a perfect base for first-time travellers to explore the country, the capital city of Muscat is home to the Bait Al Baranda museum and the Grande Mosque, which can house more than 20,000 worshippers and is decorated with 35 chandeliers made from Swarovski crystals.
According to Usama Karim Al Haremi, head of corporate communications and media at Oman Air, the country was named most peaceful country in Africa and the Middle East in the Global Peace Index 2008, making it a safe and "distinct" travel destination.
Some 120,000 Brits visited Oman between 2006 and 2007 and although the majority of trips are incident-free, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office recommends obtaining fully comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical evacuation by air ambulance.
