There's more to Egypt than the Sphinx, according to one expert.
When it comes to planning a holiday to Egypt there are likely to be a few attractions tourists want to tick off their lists, but one expert has suggested there is more to see and do in the country.
"The Pyramids and the Sphinx are the first things you are going to think of. But you don't realise how much more there is," explained Andy Henderson, a spokesman for On the Go Tours.
He said the Sahara desert is the place to see interesting sand dunes and the White desert boasts relics from the time when it was underwater. A whale skeleton was once found in the latter basin and Mr Henderson states the whole area is "absolutely spectacular".
People interested in historical culture might want to schedule time in their itinerary to visit Luxor. The official states there is so much to do - visitors could spend days exploring the ancient relics - but Mr Henderson recommends travelling a little further out of town.
Mr Henderson says the Valley of the Kings stretches for some way and anyone trying to beat the crowds could do well to venture to the outer reaches where the hieroglyphics are not as well preserved, but they are "different".
And travellers keen to broaden their horizons could try to see Abu Simbel, which the official states was built by Rammesses and is "incredible".
Single trip insurance policyholders should not find it too difficult to book accommodation, as figures from STR Global suggest occupancy levels are currently at 20 per cent in Cairo.
