"Now is not the right time" to cut back on holiday insurance
Holidaymakers should not make cut backs by not taking out a travel insurance policy, an industry association has stressed.
Steve Foulsham, technical services manager at the British Insurance Brokers' Association, said that due to the economic situation, people may be looking to their insurance as a way to cut back on their outgoings.
"Now is not the right time to do that," he stressed.
He went on to say that if the purse strings are being pulled a little tighter and holiday insurance is overlooked, if a traveller has a problem while away and needs to claim "then it can be even more of a problem".
Figures published in May by InsureandGo revealed that more than 236,000 people suffered from incidents that could have been claimed for on a travel insurance policy had they taken out insurance in 2008.
The amount that holidaymakers had to pay out in uninsured costs last year amounted to almost £90 million.
Cheap holiday insurance from Direct Travel Insurance could be one way to keep total holiday expenditure down.
