More people will stay home this summer.
With the economic downturn showing no signs of easing up, and many people being forced to cut their budgets over the Christmas period, those who are still intent on having a festive break away from home may choose to explore the UK instead of heading abroad.
According to TV's Countryfile presenter Ellie Harrison, while it is nice to have a bit of sun in the winter, the UK, and as an example Northern Ireland, can give travel insurance customers a rare chance to see their own country in all its glory.
The broadcaster says that Northern Irish breaks are perfect for people who feel they are more outdoorsy, as it hosts a number of golf courses, as well as places offering attractive walks and landscapes to enjoy.
"There is amazing walking over there, more mountains, there are amazing woodlands," she said.
Ms Harrison also said that the country offers many cultural differences which British holidaymakers may not get the chance to see every day, without having to travel far to see them, such as the sport of hurling, which can be interesting to watch or for people who feel like giving it a go.
"In particular, there is the Titanic festival in Belfast, there is an amazing exhibition called Land of the Giants in Belfast which is where the Titanic was being built with incredible displays of acrobatics, and Aerial dance and music," she said of other cultural attractions.
For history buffs who may not have seen much in the way of Northern Ireland, the country also offers a range of castles, monasteries and monuments which give a chance to visit different attractions while not far from home.
