Mont Saint Michel is a must-see for Britons heading to Normandy on holiday, according to one expert.
Britons looking to book flights and
travel insurance for a trip to Normandy should take the opportunity to see Mont Saint Michel.
This is according to Sarah Whitam of French tourism body Atout France, who noted that the tidal island is the most visited attraction in the country outside of Paris.
Mont Saint Michel is a UNESCO World Heritage site that harbours a Gothic-style Benedictine abbey that was built between the 11th and 16th centuries and is dedicated to the archangel St Michael, as well as a small village.
"It really is spectacular," Ms Whitam says, adding: "When the tide is up it's completely surrounded by water [and] when the tides down you can get across to visit it. It's amazing."
She explains that Normandy in general is an attractive tourist destination thanks to the fact that it was the home of Monet and is famous for its dairy produce, cider and calvados, which is a type of apple brandy.
