New Zealand says 'Thanks a Million'
New Zealand has launched a new promotion to say "Thanks a Million" to the tourists who reach its shores via Australia each year.
In the past 12 months, 1,001,880 people arrived to New Zealand from Australia, many of whom could have been trekking around the southern hemisphere with the protection of backpacker insurance.
Tourism New Zealand cites figures from NZSki which reveal that the continent's winter months are also attracting an increasing number of tourists.
In May, this led to a 50 per cent increase in bookings for winter sports holidays.
Holidaymakers who are considering arranging backpacker insurance for their own tour of Australia and New Zealand could also welcome the news that there are now more flights operating between the two countries.
Tourism New Zealand chief executive George Hickton claims that competitive fares and extra airline capacity have helped to increase passenger numbers.
In February, the tourism body launched its promotional campaign to attract more skiers from Australia - the earliest in the year it has ever done so.
