New Zealand offers visitors a mix of cities and the great outdoors
Heading to New Zealand is often something of a dream to many travel insurance holders, but sometimes people may be unaware of what they should do upon arriving there.
Of course, making the effort to travel half way across the world to a holiday destination means individuals are more than likely committed to making the most of their break.
However, when visiting somewhere so far away from home, holidaymakers can find themselves feeling confused with regard to the things they should see and experience.
But, according to Charles Rawlings-Way, author of Lonely Planet's New Zealand guidebook, there is a huge array of options open to first-time visitors to the southern hemisphere nation to sample.
Mr Rawlings-Way urged people to "taste both the cities and the wilderness" across the country, with its major urban locations all offering something different to visitors.
For instance, he described Auckland as "the big smoke" that features "fantastic restaurants, a gorgeous harbour and plenty of shopping and pumping nightlife", while Wellington has more "street-cred" with its "grungy alternative arts life".
Meanwhile, Christchurch, which is still recovering in the wake of the earthquake earlier this year, maintains an aura of "cultured poise", the expert added.
However, holidaymakers should not just limit themselves to enjoying New Zealand's cities, as Mr Rawlings-Way indicated that lovers of the great outdoors will also feel at home there.
"On the wild side, take a bushwalk into the wilderness [with] remote beaches, snow-capped mountains [and] thundering river gorges," he added.
